Kingfell Consulting - Risk Assessment & Compliance
A
fire risk assessment is a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire
Safety) Order 2005. Our experienced team of risk assessors work with our
clients to ensure compliance with the fire regulations and advise on all
aspects of building protection, business continuity and environmental
protection.
Our team of Fire Engineers work closely with both Building Control and
Fire Authority personnel to ensure any issues that may arise during the life
cycle of a building are quickly and safely addressed.
Q: What type of buildings can you provide this service for?
A: Our experience is wide ranging and includes commercial premises, mass transit buildings, heritage buildings and complex fire engineered premises.
Q: I’m not sure who would be the responsible person and/or competent person for the building?
A: We are often asked this question. The reason that this question is often asked is due to a general lack of understanding of current fire safety legislation and poorly communicated fire safety governance. We have worked with many clients to establish suitable and sufficient fire safety governance, policies and procedures etc. that can be rolled out through an organisation.
Q: Who is responsible for ensuring a building is safely designed?
A: The Local Authority Building Control Officer or Approved Inspector is responsible under the Building Regulations to ensure all building works are compliant including the means of escape from the premises. Once a building is occupied the “responsible person” must comply with the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and ensure a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment has been carried out. The Local Fire Authority are responsible for enforcing this legislation for most workplaces and may carry out an inspection of your premises at which time they would ask to see your fire risk assessment. Many of our fire engineers come from a fire service and building control background and we are always happy to liaise with these authorities on behalf of our clients.
