Whatever your fire suppression needs we are confident that Kingfell can help. We have an experienced fire engineering team who rigorously adhere to the relevant codes of practise and standards, be they UK, EU or American codes. Our engineers can assess the fire hazards and specify an appropriate design solution
Q: I need to install a sprinkler system, where do I start?
A: Initially you should consult with all of the relevant stakeholders such as a design specialist, the local authorities, and your insurers. One of the key design criteria is to establish the hazard classification for the system which will relate to the fire load within the building and upon which the system design will be based. Kingfell can act as a design specialist, and even consult with stakeholders on your behalf as well as giving you a cost estimate for the installation.
Q: How do I decide between a Chemical Gas and an Inert Gas such as Nitrogen?
A: The decision is based on a number of factors, such as distance from the Risk Area to the bottle location, means of extract and possibly the organisation's "green policy".
Q: Do I need to have a sprinkler water tank and pump set to supply a sprinkler system?
A: For a new installation the water authority should be consulted. Unfortunately often they cannot guarantee water supplies and it becomes necessary to install a tank and pump set. This is not always the case; for example, when installing a sprinkler system within a basement often the hydraulic demands of the system can be met without requiring a pumped water supply. Kingfell can advise on the water supply requirements including the need for pumped water supplies and water tank sizes for sprinkler systems.
Q: Are there alternatives to installing a sprinkler system?
A: Yes there are alternatives. For example a common problem is finding space to install large water tanks and accommodating large bore sprinkler mains. In this instance a watermist system which has low flow rates and consequently has significantly reduced water supply requirements and pipe sizes may be a viable alternative. Kingfell can advise on the most appropriate system type and design for a given application.
