Kingfell have a wealth of experience in providing Voice Alarm solutions for public and private buildings, ranging from transport facilities such as airports, underground and railway stations, to private offices and government buildings. Our expertise includes knowledge of current and legacy PA/VA equipment, installation practices and British Standards.

We are unique as a Fire Engineering firm in that we have an experienced in-house acoustic consultancy capability. This allows us to provide design and verification of system performance using sophisticated acoustic modelling software and on-site measurements. Predictions and measurements can be provided for sound levels and intelligibility, as well as environmental noise assessment.

Q: What is a PA/VA system?
A: Public Address / Voice Alarm systems can provide many different functions, ranging from the facility for zoned paging announcements, automated messages, and background music, up to life safety functions such as firemen's microphones and emergency messages (e.g. ‘Alert’ and ‘Evacuate’). The system must continuously monitor its own audio signal paths, power supplies, microphones and message stores in order to ensure dependable operation in life critical situations.

Q: What standards are Voice Alarm systems designed to?
A: Voice Alarm systems are designed to meet the requirements of BS5839 Part 8 (2008). New standards coming into effect include BS EN 54 Parts 4, 16 and 24.

Q: How do I know if my current Voice Alarm system meets the required standard?
A: Kingfell can provide a complete audit of existing Voice Alarm systems, including verification of equipment compliance with the relevant standards, maintenance procedures, and loudspeaker coverage / intelligibility. If the system does not meet your requirements, we can investigate ways in which the system could be modified, for example to provide revised zoning, improved loudspeaker coverage, equipment upgrades, or even complete system replacement.
